When it comes to stowing away your goods, the Porsche Macan has been serving its patrons with a boot rivalling that of a magician's hat. It's reasonable to say that from the year of our lord 2014 to the apocalypse-preventing facelifts that followed, the boot size underwent an evolution, shrinking a tad but remaining practical. But do not be distracted by the svelte lines and the cockpit that makes you feel like a fighter pilot – the boot of this beast is where the everyday magic lies in the Porsche lineup.
The original Macan 95B, which graced our roads from 2014 to 2018, offered a cavernous 500 liters of boot space. However, after what I suspect was a heated boardroom discussion filled with men in suits stroking their chins, the subsequent 2018-2021 facelift saw a marginal decrease to 488 liters, which remained the same in the next facelift spanning from 2021 to the present day. But fear not, when seats are stowed away, the loading space jumps up to 1503 liters, giving enough room for all manners of weekend activities one can muster.
In the grand orchestra that is Porsche's model line-up, the Macan doesn't sit at the top of the boot space chart; that crown is worn decidedly by the more capacious Cayenne with a rather grand 772 liters. But it trounces the sporty compatriots such as the 911 Turbo Coupe, and the 718 Boxster, which offer meager spaces of 264 and 122 liters respectively. It's like comparing a rucksack to a shopping bag; both do the job, but one certainly carries more weight.
When lined up beside its direct rivals, the Macan holds its own. Consider the KIA XCeed, which provides 426 liters, and you'll find the Macan easily outpaces it. The incredibly chic Audi Q3 boots up at 460 liters, still trailing behind our hero. The stylish Lexus NX comes in with a boot space value of 555 liters, nudging ahead of the Macan, but like all true artists, the Macan shines brighter in its performance and not just its practicality. Then there's the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque with its generous 550 liters which gives the Macan a run for its money. And let's not forget the Volvo XC40, a bit of a dark horse, which while sporting less endowment in the boot department with 433 liters, showcases elegance and Swedish practicality. Length and wheelbase do play their game as well, where longer vehicles like Bentley Bentayga and Volvo XC90 give you a bit extra room, while the Macan focuses on a balance between sporty dynamism and utility.
